When Charleston power-couple Thomas and Judy Heath asked me to do a photoshoot to showcase them as playwrights, I asked them to bring some scripts to the studio, to show them “at work.”

I love props. A prop can visualize what a person does regardless of the backdrop.

So, we played with the idea of having Judy and Thomas tossing scripts in a joyous way, a visual simile of graduates tossing their mortarboard hats at the end of the ceremony.

You know how hard to do that? After many takes, we realized that we could not get the right effect. So, I photographed Judy and Thomas “in the act” and then I photographed single scripts being tossed against the background and I composited the following image.

I love the effect and the clients loved it too, which is the most important thing.
